It’s almost World book day 2021!
This year World Book Day may look slightly different for so many with a majority of children spending it at home instead of in the usual school assembly hall. There may not be as many children dressed as the BFG, Willy Wonka or Matilda, however that doesn’t mean that world book day cant be exciting or a time to enjoy celebrating stories.
There are many wonderful resources out there to use, such as live author online events that can be watched from home or in the classroom.
Check out the official world book day website for these events.
There are also many opportunities to engage children in talking about stories. Why not go on a book scavenger hunt to find examples of different book genres or maybe you could hot seat a character from a story and ask them questions about their situation, problem or adventure.
You could challenge the children to read a book in an unusual place – can they share a picture of themselves reading sat in a hammock, or upside down? Maybe they could read a book up a tree or in a den.
